The Inca Jungle Trek is an exciting alternative to the Classic Inca Trail, offering a mix of hiking, biking and rafting through breathtaking Andean landscapes the perfect combination for total adventure and adrenaline lovers.
This 4 day tour will take you from Cusco to Machu Picchu, exploring Inca archaeological sites, picturesque villages and the lush Amazon jungle, therefore, you will visit Machu Picchu in a totally different way, not only do we do these activities, but we also enjoy the beautiful landscapes and the rich biodiversity of these places.
To start Inca Jungle Trail Total Adventure, we will pick you up from your hotel at 6 am, then we will travel by bus for three hours.
During the trip, we will observe the natural and cultural attractions of the Sacred Valley of the Incas until we reach the Abra Malaga (4,316 m.a.s.l / 14,157 ft.) highest point. From here we will start descending on bicycles for 3 hours towards the Amazon jungle, passing small villages, fruit fields, rivers and agricultural sectors.
We will arrive at a small archaeological site of Huamanmarca, a beautiful place to take pictures, then we will continue to the village of Santa Maria and here we will spend our first night in a family home.
When we arrive to this place we will first have lunch and in the afternoon we will do the canoeing (Optional) for 1 hour and 20 minutes in the Urubamba River and in the evening we will have dinner.
From 6:00 am we will have our light breakfast, then we will start walking upstream following an original Inca trail totally closed with vegetation, here we can see fruit plantations, coca, coffee, achote, etc. and a small stretch of the road will take us to the highest point of the route, from where we will appreciate the entire valley and the slope of the canyon.
After this tour we will arrive to the village of Quellomayo where we will have our delicious lunch. After enjoying lunch we will continue the hike for 4 more hours until we reach the refreshing hot springs of Cocalmayo, 10 minutes by car from the town of Santa Teresa, where we will have dinner and spend the second night of our total adventure.
After our breakfast, we have two options to get to Central Hidroelectrica.
First. We can do the zip line activity (optional), at the end of the activity we will have a bus that will take us to Central Hydroelectric.
Second option. walk for approximately two and a half hours to Central Hydroelectric appreciating the landscapes surrounded by mountains covered with vegetation.
Arriving at hydroelectric, we will have a comfortable lunch to continue our hike to the town of Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), we will go along the banks of the Urubamba River following the railway.
In Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) we will be accommodated in our rooms and later we will have our dinner.
Today is the last day of Inca Jungle Trail total adventure and it is also the most important day in our journey, because we will arrive at our destination the cultural and natural wonder of humanity “Machu Picchu”. For which, we will get up very early and 04:30 am. We will begin the walk of an hour and a half to reach the city of Machu Picchu.
In case you do not walk you can take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu which will take us 25 minutes.
We will try to be the first group to enter this wonder of the modern world, thus having the opportunity to see the sunrise.
We will start the visit by the viewpoint where the classic photographs are taken and we will be the first to take when Machu Picchu is empty. Then we will go down to the urban area to visit all the enclosures of great importance, after 2 hours we will have free time to continue exploring on our own and later at the appropriate time we will go down to the town of Aguas Calientes (optional lunch) to go to the train station back to Ollantaytambo.
At the door of the Ollantaytambo station our transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to the city of Cusco - Plaza San Francisco.
